Our limited edition prints are produced by laser lithography. First, we of course start with the original painting, hand-painted by the artist. Next, a large-format color transparency, or chrome is made from the original. The chrome is then scanned by tuned laser on a drum scanner at high resolution and digitally broken down into four component colors: cyan, magenta, yellow and black.

What is ARCHIVAL framing? Framing which is designed to last a lifetime with no permanent damage to the collectible. If you ask different framers, all will give you a different interpretation of archival or "museum" framing. We use acid-free mats and backing, and the photo is suspended with acid-free plastic photo corners, which are inert and make the photo easy to remove without damage.

and Shipping 		Matting is the colored border surrounding the image. It is made of a 1/16" paper board, with an acid-free white core and acid-free backing to keep from staining the print. Our mats are double or triple mats, (two or three boards of different colors), which are hand-cut at a 45-degree bevel, exposing the white core. Colors are chosen by the staff and the artist to enhance or compliment colors in the print. It also makes the print appear larger. The mat is not merely cosmetic, however--it keeps the print from touching the plexiglass or glass to which it would otherwise adhere to.

Website Image Usage 		A giclee (zhee-CLAY), is an individually produced, high-resolution, high-fidelity, high tech reproduction done on a special large format printer. Giclees are produced from digital scans of existing artwork. Also, since many artists now paint only digitally, there was no "original" that can be hung on a wall. Giclees solve that problem, while creating a whole new vibrant medium for art.
What is a Giclee? 		Artist's proofs are a special subset of the regular limited edition. They usually sell for 10-30% more than the regular edition. Artist's proofs began back when limited editions were all hand-pulled from a one-man litho press. The artist's proofs were the first prints pulled off a fresh "stone" (the plate which was drawn or etched by the artist to create the prints). The stone wore down as the number of prints was increased, so that the APs were the sharpest and most colorful of the lot. Thus, they sold for more, being a better product.
What is an Artist's Proof? 		Novaspace Art began in 1978, as the mail-order source for a few prints by Kim Poor. Moving out of the house in 1989 to a small rented shop, we began to add other artists, most of whom attended space art workshops held by the IAAA (International Assoc. of Astronomical artists), a loose affiliation of like-minded men and women, who had made Kim their first President. Workshops were held in Hawaii, Death Valley, N.Arizona-Utah, Moscow, Houston (NASA-JSC) and Iceland.
