Alan Gutierrez, 42, is a well-known cover artist who has done countless book and game covers. He has illustrated books for Isaac Asimov, Robert Silverberg, Gordon Dickson, and Greg Bear to name a few.

He has also illustrated spacecraft concepts for NASA. Art directors and publishers seek out Alan's work for its eye-popping color and drama.


Alan paints a view of Jupiter's volcanic moon Io, a churning hell within Jupiter's massive magnetic and gravitational fields. They keep Io in a constant state of volcanic frenzy.
FIRE AND ICE 		The Galileo probe arrived at Jupiter in December 1995. The probe dropped into the Jovian clouds at local sunrise, and radioed its findings to the Galileo orbiter above for nearly an hour. Though the probe carried no imaging camera, Alan imagines the scene it likely saw.
