COMET OF THE CENTURY

Every hundred years or so, a great comet flashes across the sky for weeks, dazzling viewers on Earth. In fact, the best comets seem to be fresh, unexpected visitors from beyond the solar system who make the trip only once.

Though painted in 1991, this work accurately predicted the arrival and appearance of comet Hale-Bopp in 1996.
